Schedule: Supporting our Sturgeon County Fabrication Shop and field projects. Overtime, shift work, and field assignments may be required based on project needs.

Location: Sturgeon County / Fort Saskatchewan Area, Alberta

Position Summary

ONEX River is seeking experienced B-Pressure Welders to support fabrication work at our Sturgeon County facility as well as field-based industrial construction projects. Reporting to the Shop or Site Supervisor, successful candidates will perform high-quality pressure welding in accordance with approved welding procedures, applicable codes and standards, client specifications, and ONEX River quality and safety requirements.

The successful candidates will be experienced industrial welders who take pride in producing quality work and are comfortable transitioning between a fabrication shop and field environment as project requirements change.

Other Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform pressure welding on piping, fittings, and related components in accordance with approved welding procedures and specifications.
  • Perform SMAW and GTAW welding processes as required by project specifications and approved procedures.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, isometric drawings, weld maps, specifications, and applicable welding procedures.
  • Prepare joints and materials for welding, including fitting, cleaning, grinding, and inspecting weld preparation.
  • Complete welds in accordance with applicable codes, client specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure proper welding techniques, consumables, preheat, interpass temperatures, and other applicable welding requirements are followed.
  • Work closely with Pipefitters, Quality Control personnel, supervisors, and other trades to meet fabrication and field requirements.
  • Complete required welding documentation and maintain proper identification and traceability of welds.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and immediately report any deficiencies or concerns.
  • Maintain welding equipment and ensure tools and work areas are kept in safe working condition.
  • Maintain compliance with ONEX River and client safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and pre-job planning.
  • Work safely in both fabrication shop and active industrial field environments.
  • Be available for overtime, shift work, weekends, and field assignments as required.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Valid Alberta B-Pressure Welder Certificate.
  • Journeyperson Welder Certificate or recognized interprovincial Red Seal certification.
  • Current and applicable pressure welding qualifications/tickets required for assigned work.
  • Demonstrated experience with SMAW and GTAW welding processes.
  • Previous pressure piping and industrial fabrication experience is required.
  • Experience working in both fabrication shop and field environments is considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret welding procedures, fabrication drawings, isometrics, and specifications.
  • Must successfully complete any required weld testing prior to commencing work.
  • CSTS 2020.
  • WHMIS 2015.
  • Energy Safety Canada H2S Alive.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Strong knowledge of industry-related safe work practices.
  • Strong commitment to quality workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Physically capable of performing the requirements of the position and working outdoors in varying weather conditions when assigned to field work.
